THE AREA
Mason City is a city of about 28,000, and the downtown area is vibrant (as is Clear Lake's). Frank Lloyd Wright designed a hotel in our downtown area that has recently been restored to its original beauty, and he designed several homes in the area as well. There is a new ice hockey/event area in the downtown area, just built a few years ago. Mason City and Clear Lake are so close they are almost one city. We are about 5 miles from Clear Lake, IA, a beautiful resort town, very large lake, and something going on there every weekend in summer and fall in the parks, on the lake, and lots of cute shops/restaurants/spas. If you have kids, in the summer they have sailing lessons for them - it's a lot of fun to watch! There are 3 golf courses in the 2 communities. We have outdoor activities all year round here. If you like snowmobiling/ice fishing/cross-country skiing in the winter, and boating/water skiing/hiking/biking in summer, this is the place for you! If you are a hunter, this is a great place to be.
Rochester, MN, home of Mayo Clinics and Hospitals, is 1-1/2 hours away, and Ames, IA, home of Iowa State University, is also 1-1/2 hours away, which has a veterinary college, with an ER. Des Moines and Minneapolis have everything you could possibly want to see/do, and they are 2 hours away. Mason City has a hospital and lots of clinics. Our school systems are excellent (we have public and a Catholic schools).
We draw customers from not only our city, but from 5 surrounding counties, as well.
We've been in Iowa for 20 years, 12 years at this clinic. It's been a great ride, just time to think about retirement.
There is an on-call veterinary rotation in the community that you can join if you wish. There are 3 clinics in Mason City and one from Clear Lake who participate.
